I love LJ as it is - I hate the fact that they want me to lose my layout look on my f-list.  One of the many things I hate about Facebook is the lack of personality.  I pay LJ to have that - but looks like I will lose that soon.

Now they want me to change my password - shall I say, "Why?" - it's been good enough for the last 7 years, so why change it.

I think I will have to look into Dreamwidth - I wonder if I can take my LJ stuff there, as I have a few things only here and not elsewhere.  Also I wonder about layout etc - any help from friends who are already there would be greatly appreciated (btw, do I still need an invite code thingy?)

I have actually commented on LJ's link and asked WHY (with caps lock!!) ... so maybe, like a few years ago this will all fizzle out.  But somehow, I don't think so.

Well, I have set up the account - and now am having a go at importing my LJ overt there ... looks like I will have to do layout later, and decide whether I pay out for the account and the icons!

Then I will look into cross-posting.

I grabbed a free account at DW when LJ was AWOL awhile back. I am using one of their themes with no changes at the moment. I don't have much of my LJ specials on that theme. I tend to forget to post at DW and then send it to my LJ. That is quickly changing now.

I added you to my DW so you should be getting a message about it soon. LJ is killing itself by all the changes and ignoring what the members like and dislike. They will end up losing everyone outside of Russia if this keeps up.

I don't think it's so bad.
You can still switch to the old version if you want to.

About the password...that's weird. I didn't get a pm to change it.

Currently we can use our own style for our friends page. The new style is in beta, but they are headed toward everyone using this new version. That's what everyone is upset about. Plus it will have a scroll instead of pages. The scroll is what Tumblr uses and it freezes the browser for some. People are not happy about that.

I got the same message about changing my password. They wanted me to include a capital letter. Mine has lowercase and numbers. I've used it for four years with no problems. Now they want me to switch it. Not happy about that. Mine is random so it would not be easy to hack. I just get tired of LJ messing with everything we do without even talking to us about it and giving us a choice about it. They have ignored how unhappy most of us are with the changes and do what they want. We have paid accounts so we can arrange things the way we like. Soon it won't be worth the money.

Sorry, I didn't mean to rant. Just bugs me.

No, that's ok..don't worry.

Yep, I just read sooner or later we're gonna have all this new version.
The only thing that bothers me is the scroll down page...that's pretty weird cause they made this big deal about lj cut and then they give us this. Pfff..

I just hope that this scroll thing will be deleted as soon as people start to protest.

Mind you it was just a suggestion to change passwords - which I've had a couple of times before - back in the days when LJ was run by Brad Whatsisname.

I ignored the current suggestion. They have not repeated it.

I can't be bothered getting excited about the current dash to Dreamwidth, to be honest, I got bored after the third of fourth time everyone said the same thing - 2 years ago, 3 years ago? I have an account there, I don't like it, it is clunky and a lot less user-friendly than LJ.

When everyone leaves LJ I will go back to spending my spare time knitting rather than on the internet, I think.

Cross-posting is a breeze. I don't remember much about setting up my account, moving my LJ stuff over, etc. but it couldn't have been terribly difficult or complicated as I think I did it myself. lol

I'm not sure it does work from here to there. But why would you need it? I just do 90% of my posting from DW, where I have it set up to automatically go to my LJ, and anything that is strictly for LJ I do from here. For RRU, I have to do two posts (if and when I remember to do DW) because you cannot cross post communities, but that's about it.

Did you mean transferring your journal entries? That's trickier, although again, something I apparently managed to do, so....
