debris4spikeSpike was an amazing character, brought to life by James.
As I said yesterday, without Spike being such a strong character I would never have become hooked. He was designed as a throw-away villain, yet having such a wonderful actor portray him, he became so much more than could ever be imagined.
One link that I saw yesterday to celebrate James 50th birthday was this .... the top 50 scenes of Spike in BtVS (great for them not to use Angel, as I have yet to watch!) ... This list brought back some wonderful memories. (I must get back to my re-watch)
As you all (probably) know I am a James fan - I love his ongoing projects, music and pray that he will have a wonderful life. Yet, I still love the character of Spike ... I read Spuffy, and when I write it is Spike or Spuffy. They are 2 separate people, yet you couldn't have one without the other.
Thank you James for doing such a great job.

Date: 2012-08-21 11:56 am (UTC)I have to say though, that I adored Spike. If he'd remained a throwaway character as planned I would have been utterly devastated. You *have* to watch Angel, just for Spike (and Wes - Wes suddenly becomes seriously hot).
It doesn't matter to me if James is Spike, Brainiac or Captain John Hart (when he got to snog John Barrowman in a Torchwood scene I think my brain exploded from the awesomeness) - James Marsters is, and always will be, one of my biggest celebrity crushes.

Date: 2012-08-21 08:18 pm (UTC)I am just not an Angel fan so could never get into the thought of his show. But I know there are some great Spike episodes, and I saw the last episode ... and agree that Wes became someone pretty "okay"
Yep, James is one amazing actor ... his characers really just seem to explode off the TV screen, don't they? (Did you forget Charlamagne Bolivar, or his part in Caprica?)
