Sunday 27th March 2011 was officially Census Day in England, for this decade - I filled mine in this morning while having breakfast ...




PS - Was it just me, or did there not seem to be as many questions as 10 years ago?

I don't know what a census is, but it looks like a kind of referendumform. Is it mandatory to fill it out? Do they do somerhing with the result?

We have one every 10 years - and it is Law to complete ... every person is listed, and then there are assorted questions like what religion your are, what Nationality etc.

It's used to keep check of numbers in towns, where to build new schools etc.

We do the same thing every ten years, but we have longer to do it. They send you forms in the mail/internet. If you don't complete them, they send someone to your house. They use the info to decide how funds from the government will be given out to states. It can shift the way your state is governed as well. Changes boundary lines for school, voting and so forth.

So your information is kept confidential for 100 years? LOL. Guess you should be safe then.

This is the first year we could have done ours on-line ... although I sat and filled mine in the old-fashioned way!

Yes 100 years before people know what I was up to !!!

Here in Australia we do the Census form every five years - forms are dropped off to every house and then collected after. It's used for a number of 'governmental' things such as calculating how many children will start school at a given time etc etc so various decisions can be made about prospective government expenditures. We are due for our next Census this year.

They used to deliver and collect, this year it was posted, and then we either posted it, or did it on-line.

I thought about the on-line option, then decided I could sit and scribble while I munched my cornflakes! (Multi-tasking!!)

We (US) did our last year. There was a much, much shorter version last year than in previous years. I don't know if everyone got it but we (Irish and I) did.

It always seems weird that ours are on the "1" years ... rather than with the Decade.

They say it's a legal requirement - but I do wonder if they get a reply from everyone.

Ours is every 5 years.

It was supposed to be filled for 8 March but it was cancelled (or postponed) because of the February earthquake in Christchurch.

I filled mine online. :)
