2011 - Day 13

It's raining again today (not that I can moan when I look at the poor people of Queensland) .... but other than an urgent rrip out to buy milk, I'm having a day in ... so it means I have no excuse not to sit and annoy the neighbours .... or do I mean practice my clarinet.  So, before I started I took a photo ... this is my hall, btw, my front door is just off camera to the right.  The bookcase is one dad made for me when I was 7!

 

Now I've practiced I can have a late lunch and get on.

Aw, you play the clarinet! That's soooo amazing! I've always wanted to play an instrument, preferably the piano but I never really got to do it. I might actually do one day. :) (Or at least I hope so.)

I learnt a bit as a kid - but basically taught myself from aga=e 25 ... a friend who I used to meet up with bought herself a clarinet for her 40th, having never learnt.

It's hard work - but fun. I play in an orchestra, which means I have a reason to keep practicing.

Your hall looks nice. I like the owl in the window. I was trying to see what book you have in your bookcase but that didn't work. It looks lovely though.

The owl I bought when I was on holiday in South France ... there is a bulb inside it!

Those books - some World War II and Falklands Conflict ones ... as well as most of my books from college days.

There are some old joke books from when I was a kid - also a few "odd" ones like Lord of the Rings, Gone With The Wind, Emma ... etc!

It is a nice piece - I like hearing the clarinet low and slow!

The theme of the cat for the "Peter and the Wolf" is like that ... and what made me want to play the clarinet. Although that is not as slow! ... And eventually goes up very, very high!

Sadly, unlike Harry, I need music to be able to play anything.

My dad plays the clarinet, and one of my favourite memories as a kid is of playing guess the tune where he would play and mum and I would see who could guess it first. I love the sound of a clarinet, it's probably my favourite instrument.

I hope your friends are faring okay, the river is going down quite quickly now and it's time for the clean-up to start.

I wish I could play like that - I have to have music, so you wouldn't have to guess ... just be able to read the title!

The clarinet is so, so adaptable - I love some real classics, like the Mozart concerto, but also love Big Band (and Military Bands) which have a real dpth of clarinets in them.

So far my friends are dry - hope that things continue "well" for your mum.
