It most certainly is. When I was signing on, I was doing a course to help me get the job I wanted in childcare, but they told me I'd have to drop the course if any jobs came along, and if I didn't apply for the jobs they would cut off my JSA. It was ridiculous because I'd never have got the job I wanted if I couldn't do my course! I'm glad I told them to stick it and moved to Southampton lol!
I'm not sure what you mean by Sign-on but I guess it has something to do with not working and having to show you applied to jobs? This is great to see more of your life and town.

Lots of places here you can do this online. (When I collected unemployment from Nevada, I was able to do it online.) Too bad you can't do that - I'd think it would be annoying to have to go down in person each week. Of course here you generally can't collect unemployment if you were self-employed
They have to look at my diary ... then they ask if I've actually done it .... etc. But, as you say, it could esaily be done over the internet - although I suppos ethat puts more people out of work!
I only get a "living" wage, as I was self employed - In England there has been a culture that those who don't work get so much money they won't get a job ... I am not like that for 2 reasons - one, I want a job, but secondly I don't actually pay my bills!
