Day 23 - Most annoying character

Sorry, but whatever the show, my answer comes back to one name ... and evn end up with 2 YouTube videos ... which was the scariest bit about this post!

He is just an ordinary guy ... but thinks he is "God's gift" ... I have met a few in real life, and they are a pain.

He almost rapes a girl, yet when someone else does the same later ... he never allows the event to be forgotten for a second.

He doesn't pass on a vital message, to save the girl the heartache of having to kill the guy she loves.

The way he treats his long-term girlfriend is terrible ... so what if she's a bit differen ... so are all his friends!

Just one or two things that remind me why I find Xander Harris the most annoying of characters!

I don't think I had seen him in anythingelse ... he was over here at a Con last year - the one that James was at while injured. But I wasn't there.

I believe he is now in Rehab.

So glad to read - there are a few Xander fans out there (weird as it may seem!), so I tried to be good and think positive ... and couldn't think of a thing to say!

I really do not like his character at all.

I didn't too much about Xander either (though I can't say I hated him!) but speakr2customrs, ozma914, and nwhepcat have all written wonderfully redeeming fic about Xander that make him into someone I really like. Though I can't remember offhand if any of them address Xander's almost-rape of Buffy or the Big Lie, to be honest.

There are one or two things I hate about his character ... and sadly find, even when he is "doing the right thing" he does it in an annoying way - *g* But, that's what makes BtVS a great series - people to love and hate.

Don't think I have read those fics, but I tend to be single minded Spuffy based ... bad, I know, as it means I miss out on some great fics.

I think it is the rape that annoys me the most ... as his treatment of Spike in season 7 is that of being very un-forgiving for that one sin.

I'm totally with you on Xander. The points for why you don't like him are the exact same points I don't like him. That 2nd video was spot on with the grafics and lyrics LOL.

Yes, I loved that 2nd video!

I know there are people who like him - but that's what I love about BtVS, that there are a variety of characters .. even if it means we have to have Xander in that mix!

I so dislike Xander in BTVS. I hated how he treated Anya. He was forever telling her to be quiet. Not to say things to that were on her mind. She got little respect from him.

Then when he freaked out seeing Anya and Spike together, it burned me. He broke up with her and she was free to see anyone she wanted.

Xander lived a double standard. He hated Angel and Spike because Buffy cared for them. After Buffy and Riley broke up, he guilt tripped her into going after Riley. Yet, as you stated, Xander attempted to rape Buffy and lied about remembering it. Buffy never told Xander Spike raped her, but that was what he told Dawn. It was none of his business. If Buffy wanted anyone to know anything about what happened, it was up to her.

The rape stories really hit home, as I recently re-watched some season 1&2 ... He was "that stalker guy, who wanted to get in Buffy's pants"

He had such a double standard.

When Buffy confronted Spike over Anya ... her comment then was moving on with a friend of hers ... whereas Xander never forgave Spike for being with Anya.

I was watching some season 3 yesterday, and he was whining that Cordy wouldn't speak to him because she caught him kissing Willow - he wanted to know why she hadn't knocked on a door ... again, someone else in the wrong, even though he was the one cheating.

Aw, I've always kinda liked Xander. I dunno, I think he's lovable. Like a really dumb puppy.

Xander definitely reached Spike's level of stalker perversity when it came to Buffy. Xander spied on her while she changed clothes, fantasized about her while sitting next to her, told her that people would think she was a slut if she kissed a guy on a date, told her that he has sex dreams about her and thinks about what she is wearing when he's alone in his bedroom, told her date not to touch or even look at her, constantly flirted with her despite the fact that she wasn't flirting back, gave her a charm bracelet that said "yours always" and then said to Willow that the fact that she wore it meant they were practically going out, he tried to rape her while partially possessed and then faked amnesia so he wouldn't have to apologize and still didn't apologize after she found out he remembered, he told her his willpower in not having sex with her when she was under a love spell was "touch and go", he tricked her into sending her first love/lover to Hell and then got pissed off at her for grieving for months and called her broken heart and guilt "guy troubles", he saw her talking to another guy and bitterly referred to him as her "Teutonic boytoy", etc.

Yes, all the things he moaned about in Spike (and others) were his faults first ... and the way he treated Anya doesn't even bear thinking about.

I suppose the good thing about BtVS is that there were nasty characters like Xander, which gives added depth to the series ... Trying to think of something positive about Xander .....
