366 MEME - Day 352 - The Wrong Tune!
Sunday, January 31st, 2010 08:41 pmHow many of you have ever gone to Church ... seena hymn number on the hymn sheet, looked at your books and smiled, as it's a favourite. that's what I had in our second service this morning. The first hymn was one called "I've found a friend" .... an old one I hadn't sung for ages ... and, as you can see in this picture, 2 tunes ... Anee chose the wrng one. Yes, our organist is finally confirmed as totally weird ... well, by me, anyway!

Date: 2010-01-31 09:21 pm (UTC)The organist launched into one of the hymns ( Oh Jesus I Have Promised)
I know two tunes to that hymn
The one he played was neither :)

Date: 2010-01-31 09:58 pm (UTC)The second-to-last song of the service was supposed to be "Angels We Have Heard on High", and the lyrics were printed in the bulletin. She instead played "Angels From the Realms of Glory." The confused congregation sang the printed lyrics to the wrong tune, and they actually kind of fit!
After the song (which was thankfully only 2 verses), the minister said we were going to sing the right tune, and indicated to Olga she should find the proper tune, and due to a miscommunication or whatnot, Olga played the final hymn, "Joy to the World!" So the minister waves her arms and says, "No, no, no!" and the choir director is trying to find the right hymn, and it was snicker-worthy until everyone was finally singing the right words with the right song!

Date: 2010-02-01 01:19 pm (UTC)My friend toni is not a Christian, but every year since I have known her she has gone to a carol service - a couple of years ago ,.... her favourite carol, wrong tune! It sounded weird to me even though I loved the tune (to another hymn)
