Normally on the Saturday of Rememberance Weekend I watch The Festival of Rememberance, from The Albert Hall in London - a very moving event. However this year I was in hospital getting my eyes sorted out.

So, thought I would share a picture of these medals - they belong to me, and were my Great-Uncles and Grandfathers -

The upper one is The Victory Medal
The lower one is The War Medal
& other is Granddad's 1914 - 1915 Star

Those are very cool pieces for remembrances. I bet you must be special to have them. :)

Those are very interesting pieces. I've never seen them before. Great history for your family. Thanks for sharing them.

Thank you for sharing those. The Victory Medal is interesting, both in the name ("Great War for Civilisation" - my American spellcheck hates that "s"!) and the dates. Why 1919?

That's very interesting - I never knew that. My own grandfather turned 18 on Armistice Day so was never called up. (His two-years-older brother was in the Army during the war, I believe.)
