366 MEME - Day 257 - Half-Term In Bude.

Amazingly for a British half-term, the weather has been pretty good.  The fair is in Bude for the week - and although I am not going to get myself turned upsidedown, I thought you might like to see others having a go this afternoon!

I love roller coasters, but can't do anything that goes upside down. Does bad things to my tummy.

That went up to about 70' and was rotating! Easy Roller Coasters are OK - my real favourite are slides, helter-skelters, drop slides etc.

Yes, it's a shock when school hols and good weather arrive together - that is a worry!

Ok, I get rollercoaster and love very much myself although hadn't been on one in awhile, but my real questions is this; What is a Britsh half-term? Is that a school break of some kind?

Sorry - half term is the middle week of a school term. Most schools have 3 terms and the weeks are usually endOct/beg Nov .... Mid Feb, and the last week of May.

Down here we have four.

Some schools are talking about going onto 4 .... But here it is -

Autumn term - September to Christmas
Spring Term - New Year to Easter
Summer Term - Easter to July.

Exams are in June, and the month of August is summer holiday.

That actually makes sense. Especially given that you've got Christmas and Easter right there to break things up.

(Given that, here, Christmas happens at summer, we can't really do that the same way. We have Jan-Easter, Easter-June, July-Sept, Sept-Christmas.)

Thanks for that - I wondered how the year was split - I suppose makes more sense than our 3 way split .... with a 6 week break in the summer.
