On the wednesday, we went on a coach trip around part of the Island - and one of the places we visited was The Achillion Palace, just outside Corfu Town.

Some of it, now, is the casino, but we weree able to go around the grounds and into the ground level of the building - so the camera was, yet again, busy .....

The entrance -

The Muses, and The Graces, all had their statues along the one wall of the house.

The main staircase

Kaiser Willhelm II's desk - he had the seat made, as a saddle, so he didn't want to feel he was not working, when he was sitting at his desk.

I just loved this light fitting.

The dying Achilles

When Kaiser Bill took over the house on the previous owner's death, he ordered that the above statue be moved from pride of place, and this 33ft bronze of the triumphant Achilles be placed there instead .... It was very impressive, and I still can't see wy I couldn't bring it home as a souveneir (even if it does way 4 tons!!)

Oh how beautiful!!! Am I wrong or is it the palace where our Empress Sissi had went to regain her health? I believe it is, but I´m not sure about. Corfu is (besides Madeira) another wonderful place my mum would love to go someday..I will show her all your pics you made! She will love it, I´m sure! Thanks for sharing those wonderful pictures!!

My mum is very interested in this whole story. Sissi and how it really had been, not the uber-schmoopy stuff the movies like to show.
My mum has the biography about Sissi and that´s why I know about the palace..I also do know that Sissi had been a fan not only of the Greek Mythology but as well of Shakespeares "Midsommernight´s dream" and there she especially adored Oberon and Titania.
The palace is a very interesting and historical place, especially for us Austrians. Thanks again for sharing!

What a wonderful place - thanks so much for showing it to us.

(Still looks rather Minas Tirith - I'm beginning to think Tolkien must have been there!)

Very beautiful, Kaiser Billy's silly saddle notwithstanding.

The Achillion Palace is impressive. No clue if Kaiser Willhelm II was ever on Corfu or if just his desk is there now.
Don't worry because you couldn't take the triumphant Achilles. Just think of the excess baggage you don't have to pay for. *g*
