Oh where I was standing is now underwater!! It is on the beach - so this is the canal/river outlet to the sea, across the beach - yes, it's raining again as I type this!

Wow - I don't know! The beaches are long and very gently sloping, so have plenty of sand - but don't know the average difference - I shall try to find out and get back to you.
