Making Up For Yesterday!

"What a difference a day makes"

He was such a good boy today - strolled in and stood while I groomed and plaited him (tail and mane today), then tacked him up and headed off to meet Ros.

As we were walking up the road someone stopped to ask me about riding lessons ... and again DJ was great - even when the lady walked straight behind him, and patted him on the butt - some people have to concept of the strength of a horse, or the amount of training that they go through to accepy such idiots around them!  But, as I said he was great.

We met up with Ros and Shadow, and only went round the block as Ros was busy - so we trotted most of the way.

As the sun was shining we got back quickly, but hot - so I spent some time settling him and grooming him before he had a small feed and back out to his field ... where he waited tll I was out of camera angle before getting down to roll - so no picture to shre ... but one very muddy (and happy) pony!!

Do you give riding lessons with DJ? I've never heard that mentioned before.

When I was about 1/2 way through learning the basics I started helping Toni out at the yard she ran. This payed for my lessons, as well as doing a favour to her. I ended up working more - and bought Jaykub from there when he had a nervous breakdown.

When he died I had DJ on permenant loan and 6 months later I started training him, and he lived at the stables - after about 6 months he started doing a bit of work in lessons, but mostly was the horse I rode while doing escort riding.

So, yes, until 3 years ago he had done some work in a stables - Don't remind him ... pointing to icon !!

I've noticed more than once how careless people are around horses. Good for DJ that he was such a gentleman.

He was great - I have a healthy respect for all horses, especially their back legs. It is scary how little people think about the size of animal they are near.

The lady went behind and patted him on the butt? Yikes. Some people don't have any sense.

It is scary how some people ignore how powerful a horse is! Still he was a good boy today - 11 out of 10 good!

Obviously some people haven't been around large animals before. That lady is quite a lucky not to be laid out by a swift kick to the head, chest or thigh.

Wonder if she would mount from the right side?

It is scary how people forget that a horse is a loarge animal. Most owners are even wary of their own horses, let alone strange animals in unusual places!

Still - he was great - so an extra carrot was on it's way!
