Yes, this is Launceston Castle - last camera club meeting of the season, and I stopped on the way there.

btw - Launceston is pronounced either -
a) Lorn-stun
b) Larn-sen (if Cornish)

I go through or round the town on a weekly basis now ... but have yet to actually stop in the town itself ... I must do that soon. The camera club actually meets at Tregadillet.

No, that is a new style of castle for me. When was it built?

1067 ... so, a year after The Norman Conquest of Britain .... there are some more details here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Launceston_Castle

It is a traditional mott and bailey style ... ie the building is on a hill - easy to see and protect itself.
