DJ - Poor Boy ... He Really Deserved The Extra Carrots!

Before I went to gt DJ in this morning, I popped in to say Hi to Toni and family ... to find out how DJ have done yesterday. Yes, he had been out, down to the Church and back, riden by Toni's step-mum.
 

Janet's daughter Mel, gave Toni a horse-on-loan just over 10 years ago, Tilly ... Toni went to a family funeral, leaving me with 12 horses, and 2 daughters. The day before she returned, Tilly decided to (unexpectantly) give birth ... yes, you guessed it, DJ.

That is why DJ has my name (they are my initials) ... and also why I think DJ is an escape artist. tilly was living in a field at the time, wearing 2 rugs ... one with a strap under her tail, the other with straps that wrapped around her back legs. How DJ wasn't hanged was anyone's business!!

Anyway, DJ was impeccably behaved yesterday - he kept up, didn't spook, concentrated, and Janet loved her outing.

So, I went out to see the 2 boys ... and, wish Conrad a Happy Birthday! Then collected DJ and walked in.



I didn't have time to give him a thorough groom, so it was a "flick-off" around his saddle area, then through the tack on, and ready to ride up the road with Toni and Smudge. In the yard I re-adjusted the styrrups, then got annoyed with DJ for not listening to what I was asking him to do ... Only to find I had twisted his reins as I put them on. So, poor boy (yes, I apologised profusely) was actually doing as I asked ... just I was giving him the opposite instructions to the ones I meant. I AM SORRY, DJ!!!!

Once untangled we continued on, and then had a canter up the verge, which was great fun. The sun is shining here ... lovely day, so it was great to be out.

Once back, I had coffee, while DJ had extra hay and carrots, before I fed him and took him and the boy's hay out to their field.

Oh yes - it was a lovely ride ... and I feel so guilty for thinking he was not listening - when he was doing exactly what I asked!

Were you alone when DJ was born? Did you have to help Tilly with the birth? No wonder DJ adores you. You were with him from the beginning.

I was with Toni's 2 girls - but they were 11 and 15 at the time. he had already been born - he was a black puddle when I met him!

Hello DJ.
I love that picture and would love to give him a big cuddle and lot's of carrots, which I am sure would seal the frienship straight away.

So Tony with all her years around horses never suspected anything???

I bought a standardbred mare who came with a little surprise we didn't found out about till a few months later, we named the colt Mystery. But she started to show signs a few weeks before and a vets visit confirmed it for us. But the guy I bought her off said at no time was she ever in a paddock with a stallion. Strange how these things happen, because I know of another mare who was in a paddock next to a stallion and neither one was found in the others paddock yet again a colt was the results.

Yes, your are DJ's friend ... carrots and cuddles are up there in his top things to make him happy.

Both Conrad and DJ were suprise boys ... but didn''t get the story of the immaculate conception, just came with no back history!

I think Toni and I were just chatting too much for her to notice!!!
