.... Yes, the first time ever!

I did it - I truly did!

Tonight was the first run-through on the Kackachurian Violin Concerto for the concert next year.  This is the piece I posted the picture of - the 1st clarinet part is horrific and is noted that it is the 2nd most important part .... and for those who play a clarinet, let me tell you it is mostly written in flats (as repetative accidentals!).  Anyway, my home rehearsal had gone badly, so I didn't look at it too much ... but this evening wasn't as big a disaster as I was dreading.  So I was feeling OK .. we have a year, it will be fine.

Anyway the other pice of music we are going to play is Peter & The Wolf .... another hard piece to play, which I attempted about 7 years ago, and being that it is the first piece of Classical music I heard, and thus the one that got me interested in the clarinet, I am looking forward to the work of getting that piece round my fingers.

Anyway, I am coming to the point - as we were leaving the 2nd clarinetist said she hoped I didn't mind if she did the Peter & The Wolf, seeing as I was doing the Violin concerto 1st part ... I said she could do that and I would do Peter - "No", she wanted to do Peter ... and ...

GULP

I said, I was going to play it - I was looking forward to doing it.

So - I actually stood up for myself!!!!!!!

Now - do I mention this to the conductor if I see him outside of rehearsals?  Should I e-mail him ... or just let it lie at that?

But - I say again - I DID IT!!!

Let the green overlord icon speak for itself *points to icon*

Yay for you :D *huggles*

Now what to do.... I guess I would let it rest and only address the matter if it comes up again.
Otherwise it might be mistaken for going behind the other lady's back. Not sure how close you two are, so... just saying.

All the more YAY then :D Complexes of any sort are a bad thing to give.
And playing a piece that is special to you, you'll play it even better, I suppose.

Hope things turn out well and without any nasty fights.

Good for you to stand up to get what you wanted. I would tread lightly on the last one about talking to the conductor. If the 2nd was a good friend, I wouldn't say anything. If 2nd is the type to sneak behind your back to talk to conductor, I would bring it up in front of 2nd to the conductor that you two talked it over and you would prefer to play Peter. Not make a big deal of it or like you were staking a claim, but just in casual conversation that you two spoke about it.

Yay! Congrats. I would have had problems with that too, I'm the same way.

Also, Peter & the Wolf is fun. My band did it in high school and this really vibrant guy read and he was good. I did not play any of the flute solo parts. I do remember it being hard and kind of random.

Have fun!

You are so totally awesome! :D

And if I played the clarinet, I'd so totally want to play the 1st part of Peter & the Wolf. It's such a fun piece. :)

Oh, good for you! that's great. About what to do, let it rest for a while, if the matter comes up again, keep standing your ground, and you have the right to take whatever measures you consider to validate those rights, if that means talking with the conductor, then do it! *hugs*
