Spark & Burn Awards.

For quite a few on my f-list that title won't mean a thing ... but there again, for the rest it will!

Spark & Burn is one of the fan-fic award sites, that can be seen here , if you don't know about it!

I have been a judge for the last 2 rounds, and have just received the information I need for the next set of judging.  It has been terribly delayed this time due to "RL" going on in the life of Amy the organisor.

However - I am now busy printing out stories ready to read.

As ever I find it a challenge -

• Some of the fics are stories that I have already read and loved ... in fact 1 of the fics I have read many times and about 5 others are ones I have read during this last year and fell in love with.
• Some of the fics I will be reading are Spuffy, yet not of the group that I normally read - There are a few that are all-Human, and a couple that are very dark.
• I have, as ever been asked to do 3 catagories (and, no, I am not going to say which ones ... I don't want any bribes coming my way ... LOL) ... with a couple of the fics being in more than one group.  That is something that I always find extra hard, for some unknown reason.
• Yes, some of you reading this - it is going to be your fics I shall be reading.
• You know I hate WIPs ... well, as ever there are some in there!

All I can say is that I promise to judge on an even basis, and hope that all of us come to the correct answers.

For me, it has come at a good time.  I am really feeling that life is going well, so the challenge of reading some work that I normally wouldn't read ... as well as being constructive in my Spuffy thought processes, will do me good!

Judging is hard work; one of the things that makes it worthwhile (perks, if you will)is the opportunity to read authors and genres that you might not have if you weren't given a reason. Discovering just one author whose work you like is worth the effort. Discovering two or three is just icing on the cake. IMHO.

I will admit that I do gain a lot from the challenge - just a bit daunting when faced with all the titles in front of me, as I was last night! This time they seem to be mostly log fics ... which I do enjoy.

I have only ever read one fic that I both hated, and also couldn't decide why it had even been nominated.

So, I am the winner ... and it is great to be able to thank all the amazing authors out there, for their hard work.

I have found many wonderful new (to me, at least) authors while judging--I wish you good stories!

Yes, I have been the same in the past.

I have a great f-list, love a couple of the comms I am a member of on LJ, and then rely on 2 web sites ... This way I end up with an amazing array of new (to me) authors ... and as I said a few stories that I have already bi-passed. Yet they are great.

I empathize with you, Deb.

I really don't like WIP's either, and it's hard for me to read them unless I already know the author and KNOW they'll finish it - I hate to be left hanging in the middle of a story!

I think my dislike of WIPs stems from when I first discovered fan-fic ... read some great stories ... that turned out to be WIPs ... and I was ... what ... no ... Grrgh!!

Thanks - I do enjoy it, even if I gulp when I see the challenge in front of me ... Most of them, this time are very long fics!

I hope you find some lovely new fics that you haven't read before. I did some judging a few years ago, and like you hated that some of them were wips (some of which are still not complete all this time later). I absolutely don't read wips now, preferring to wait until a fic is complete or not read at all.

Yes, thats so true - great story and then you are left hanging!

Oh well, in the past I have only read one story I actually hated ... so hopefully will enjoy this set as well.
