Stress - Remembering A Bible Verse.
Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 03:41 pmThis morning when I was reading my Bible I read 1 Peter.
As I was reading, it reminded me of a story that I heard some years ago about stress, and I realised that it is something I do.
A lady is walking home from market, up a hill, and she is looking very tired. She sees the door of her Church standing open, so she walks in.
As she goes through the door, she puts her bags down, and then lights a candle, and sits quietly relaxing and praying.
After some time, she is feeling calmer and fully refreshed, so she stands up and starts on the remainder of er journey.
As she leaves the Church, she picks up all the bags and parcels and heads home!
Yes, I am guilty of that.
For me, as you know, my faith means everything. I truly believe that God has a plan for me - and even when things are going wrong I can re-focus and refresh myself. Then, as I go on with my day - what do I do?
Yes, I pick up those stressful thoughts and take them with me.
Why didn't the lady in my story have her shopping delivered? No, we are all the same - the parcels come with us.
1Peter 5 v 7 & 9b - N.L.T.
"Give all your cares and worries to God, for He cares about what happens to you.
Remeber that your Christian brothers and sisters are going through the same kind of suffering as you"

Date: 2008-11-26 03:57 pm (UTC)I don't believe that we are meant to give things over to let someone else handle - be it God or shopping delivery. I think we are given what we can handle. The key is in the knowing when to ask for help and when to refresh ourselves, even if just for a few minutes. I think it's unrealistic to expect God to do all of the work. We're here for a purpose, right? (If not, then why are we here? Which is a discussion for a different time.*smile*)
And I'm sorry that you're stressed. *hugs*

Date: 2008-11-26 05:00 pm (UTC)I just know that I don't let anything go ... whereas I wish I could learn to share that burden - even for a brief time. I don't expect God to do the work - but I have a problem accepting where I should be etc,
Oh well, maybe (one day) I shall learn that lesson!
