Cornwall - Again ... But This Time To Correct A Mistake About Bude!
Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 06:51 pm... Yes when I wrote last week that the lock gates in Bude were the only lock gates in England that opened from a canal into the sea - I was correct
But, as of this afternoon I am wrong - One of the lock gates was washed off its hinges last night in the storms - so as I type this it is now had to be removed, both to repair it and the surrounding structures.
There are concrete blocks placed in place to try to limit damage by the sea - but the other lock gates can't be used as the sand has been washed up and the lower 1/3 needs to be dug out.
Behind the cut is a picture I took of the lock gates last year - I couldn't get down today as I was working by the time the crane started working, but I will try to get down tomorrow to see if I can see what is happening.
