Bude Update

ukchrisp asked me yesterday, when she saw the picyures I posted of the family at Bude Here, for those who missed it what was happening with regards to the damage to the lock gates, that I reported during the Spring.

Well, the gate, itself, is repaired, but there is still some structural work to do on the actual canal wall.  The local Council also decided to bring foreward a job and dredge and repair the actual basin, while it was empty.  So they have put a temporary damn on the land-ward side of the basin and, as you can see in the pic, they are working to repair the years of silt and damage.  This photo was one I took last month and work is prceeding steadily.

The picture shows the empty canal ... with this one, looking inland 



And - ... you have to have a supervior for the work .... Cue Jiffy ....

So, as you can see, there is work going on - just a piity that it won't be fully repaired for the summer season ... even with Jiffy's help!!

Thanks for updating Deb, it's nice to see that the council had decided to do a proper job and dredge all the silt whilst the gates were being fixed, it makes much more sense to do all the work now than have to do it at a later date.
Considering the sort of summer we've had so far I don't think that having the gates repaired now will make much difference to the "summer season" do you *g*

Summer .... mmm , yes, you are right!! Still the one or two things that the canal used to be used for - row boats etc have re-located upstream, so thets OK. And great to see money used wisely to do everything in one go!

Yes, now they have a proper supervisor around things will be fine! He should be visiting again this weekend, so the workmen had better watch out!

Yes - hectic ... they hope to finish very soon now.

Jiffy would love that hug - he thinks all these 2 legged things are put on the planet just to make a fuss of him!!
