Hallowean - Buffy Style.
Tuesday, June 10th, 2008 08:23 pmJust watching Buffy, the Vampire Slayer ... Season 2 ... Hallowean ; and in doing so have had a couple of random thoughts (when not watching Spike have fun!)
1. Spike had Buffy video-taped so he could watch and re-watch the fight.
If that was his only reason then how did he win the fight against The Chinese Slayer - we know he had fought Nicki once befor e... but there again he had fought Buffy.
Or - was it really as Dru later said - "You are covered in her"
So, was this really where Spike's stalking started - His obsession of killing we know, but how much did he enjoy that tape?
2. How did the vampire that Angel fought get into Buffy's house? What about the no-invitation rule?
3. I just love the scene where Willow walks through the library wall - startling Giles ... It cracks me up each time I see it.
4. Although Giles fighting has been hinted at - when he was willing to fight The Master (etc) it is here that you see Ripper - in his fight against Ethan ... A lot of tension and anger is inside him, that is mostly hidden away.
5. Spike could have had his third slayer - if he hadn't enjoyed savouring the moment.
The walk of Spike and the other demons to the warehouse is great - they all seem to have the Spike (James) swagger ... and then his entrance into the building (swoon!).
However he then delays - by going slowly - enjoying the fear.
But - so does Buffy ... With a great opening line of "Hi Honey" ... yet she doesn't follow through and stake him ... even though she did win the fight.
6. This episode also sees Willow's first step towards being the strong independant woman that she will end up ... and her first love with Oz.
7. Xander admits he knows it is Buffy&Angel forever here ... although we later know he never gives up hope that Buffy will turn to him.
A great episode, for all the characters. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it again.

Date: 2008-06-10 07:32 pm (UTC)Maybe the threshold didn't work because at the time, Buffy didn't know who she was. So she also wouldn't feel/be at home in that house, therefore no blocking-power of the threshold. And here I'm mixing a bit of Dresden Files lore into this.
Does it makes sense at all?
also - bwaha - Spike has Buffy soft-porn *hides*

Date: 2008-06-10 09:04 pm (UTC)Yes - Buffy ... Spike. I am trying to watch the episodes without thinking of all the Spuffy fics I have read!!! But - as most of them say, there was the attraction from the beginning - and you see it in this episode!!

Yes - the Giles - Ethan was great ... and gives a lovely intro to Ethan's character.
It is a great episode - I had forgotten how much I liked it

Date: 2008-06-11 12:13 pm (UTC)There are some great fics - and for me watching the episode I so want to re-read Lost in Time - as that is one of my faves!
Yes - I am enjoying watching in order - even season 1 ... although can't wait to get through to #4 ... just so I know Spike will be there all the time!!
This may be a long comment...
Date: 2008-06-11 04:56 am (UTC)Joss Whedon and his brain, his writing, his wit - is truly amazing...
In the first episode that Spike is first mentioned and brought forth in, is School Hard, episode 3 - remember the scene where Willow, Xander and Buffy are on the floor dancing and Spike is lurking about, just watching her - he is there, he sees her, watching her, he is taking her in fully - this is where we see the "love" that Spike has for the Slayer - it's in his eyes, in his his walk, you can see that he is "into" her...you can see he wants more than just to kill her...Angel in his true form Angelus, loves to torture, where Spike, wants to love her and wants her to love him back...Spike is a romantic - even under the "I am a bad ass vampire"....this is just the beginning... - although he is looking at her as his "next slay" he is also looking at her as his next lover...he wants to be loved, by someone who can actually love him...Dru's heart aint beating, but Buffy's is...Spike is longing for someone to truly love him...
As for the Halloween episode - my take - Buffy is transformed into this person from Angel's time...she no longer exists as someone who lives in the house - the house in free reign...free reign to anyone, vampires included. But as we are told vamps take the night off, but since Spike is in town...and wants to play, vamps are in town and playing...
Season 2 is one of my favorites - especially cause Spike comes into play!!!

Date: 2008-06-11 12:17 pm (UTC)Yes - I put up about School Hard - here ... and that really was a Spike (James) drool report!! It is also where this icon comes from!
Thats a great idea about the no-invite rule. Hadn't thought down that line at all - Thanks for that

Date: 2008-06-26 11:42 am (UTC)Spike was a very different type of vampire. On Angel, they show Angel having problems with using a cell phone. Yet, Spike is shown using computers and video cams. Angel was from a much earlier time than Spike. Angel was more or less a lout as a human. William was an educated gentleman. That plays into how they evolved as vampires. Angel didn't seem to seek out things while wandering after being cursed with a soul. He was shown in backflashes as avoiding humans and staying in his rooms reading or listening to music. Spike changed with the times. He and Drusilla were shown in backflashes as attending parties and being around humans. Angel shut himself off while Spike loved being in the middle of things.
If that was his only reason then how did he win the fight against The Chinese Slayer - we know he had fought Nicki once before... but there again he had fought Buffy.
Or - was it really as Dru later said - "You are covered in her"
Spike wanted to prove himself to the family. He wanted to change who he was as a human because he saw himself as weak and the victim. So when sired he enjoyed being with Dru. It was when Angelus made it clear to him that Dru would never be his alone that he created Spike. He created a different identity where he would not be the victim or have anyone beat him down again. Once he heard there was a slayer, killing a slayer became his goal to prove himself. The Chinese Slayer was distracted by a blast going off and Spike took advantage of it. It always seems to me that Nikki gave in to Spike. It was an odd fight. She just seem to let him break her neck. Never really understood that, but then we only had the retelling of it by Spike to Buffy.
So, was this really where Spike's stalking started - His obsession of killing we know, but how much did he enjoy that tape?
James said he played the scene in the Bronze when Spike first saw Buffy as if he was stalking his prey. He said he tried to make it seem sexual. Spike was attracted to Buffy from that scene on I think. At first he just admired the slayer. Then as he watched her more it begin to build and ended as Dru saw him surrounded by the slayer. I think he began his obsession with Buffy around that time.
2. How did the vampire that Angel fought get into Buffy's house? What about the no-invitation rule?
There were times on Buffy that Joss said they just screwed up. Things got past them that fans pointed out later.
3. I just love the scene where Willow walks through the library wall - startling Giles ... It cracks me up each time I see it.
That was a fun scene. Love when Giles gets startled.
Post is too long so have to address the other points in a second message. Yeah, I think too much.
Second part of my message.
Date: 2008-06-26 11:48 am (UTC)I think the Ripper side of Giles scared him a bit. He tried to play that side down. Ripper side shows up off and on. It's a side he doesn't want Buffy to see. He is her mentor and thinks she need to respect him. So he hides that part of his past and nature.
5. Spike could have had his third slayer - if he hadn't enjoyed savoring the moment.
Spike told Buffy later on that vamps like to talk big. He loved to create fear in his victims and used his charm, good looks, and power. Yet, he wasn't stupid. He picked his fights and knew when to give up and run. It's how he has lasted over a hundred years. Aren't we glad that Buffy didn't stake him? Joss saw a good thing and changed his mind about Spike being the vampire of the week for Buffy to kill and move on.
6. This episode also sees Willow's first step towards being the strong independent woman that she will end up ... and her first love with Oz.
Willow changed more than any character over the series to me. She was a shy geek who became a powerful wicca.
7. Xander admits he knows it is Buffy&Angel forever here ... although we later know he never gives up hope that Buffy will turn to him.
Xander hated both Angel and Spike because Buffy chose them over him. He tried to like Riley because if Xander couldn't have Buffy at least Riley was human. A souped up human, but at least not a vampire. It was very telling in the scene where Xander attacked Spike after seeing the video feed of Spike and Anya having sex. He was angry, but when Spike revealed he had been with Buffy Xander was shocked and disappointed in her. He seemed almost more hurt by the relationship of Buffy/Spike than Anya moving on.
Re: Second part of my message.
Date: 2008-06-26 12:37 pm (UTC)I am enjoying re-watching ... although my friends daughter has the DVDs at present - so there is a slight gap befrpoe I can get on with my

Date: 2008-06-26 04:03 pm (UTC)Now I have ordered the Spike figure from School Hard to put on my desk as I work on the computer. So I am now officially a geek like Andrew, Warren and Jonathan. LOL.
