Nothing important to say - but I am going to say something anyway!!

One of the bands I am a member of had a concert last night - and I don't know whether the conductor had been at the coffee before we started, or had a hot date waiting for him - but I have never played some of those pieces so fast - ever.

It is a "Concert Band" and we play a selection of 16 pieces of music - Last night including

Pirates of the Caribean
Phanton of the Opera
Les Miserables
Jerusalem
Best of Queen
Best od Frank Sinatra
Theme from Out of Africa
   etc
and finishing with "Sunset" - Which is The Day Thou Gavest Lord is Ended and The Last Post ... a traditional army combination..

This band has quite a few ex-military personel (including the conductor who was in The Scot's Guards).

Still we had a reasonable audience - who seemed to enjoy it, so that was the main thing!  My main worry was that I would fall down the grating - as our concert was in a Church and the chair legs were smaller than the holes in the gratiing!

Oh well - lazy-ish day today.

Tomorrow = Bank Holiday.  No plans, but I have an orchestra rehearsal in the evening (yes - I know ... madness!!)

"Sunset" always makes me cry :(

But I now have visions of the band falling one by one into the crypt as their chair legs slip through the gratings

Will admit that there have possible been one or two members that I might have helped on their way!!!!!

(Just being part of the team ... of course!!)


Sunset - our 2 trumpeters made a beautiful job of it - at the end of a concert (especially for amateurs) it is a worry that the lip is beginning to go - but that went really well ... it makes me gulp, even when playing as well.

Glad it went well - Pirates and Phantom must've been cool to hear! I love their music.

And in my band concerts we have these small, wobbly plastic chairs that are very uncomfortable and nervewracking to sit on as well!

Phantom I find a bit hard ... especially as the fast bit (all triplets in a bad key for a clarinet!) went very fast!!! But the music is great - really love Pirates.

Oh - you need a comfy chair, between pieces to be able to relax ... oh well - my next concert - different Church ... maybe if I get there first I can re-arrange where the seats are!!!

Yes - Bank Holiday tomorrow - and rain is forecast!!

Sunset - is a combination of an Evening Hymn ... with The Last Post ; which is a bugle call played over a burial site for the Army ... don't know if the German one will be similar - but it is an ancient piece of music. Very moving.

I don't know the songs by title; but if the songs are played in movies, Last Night of the Proms or played (I don't now how it's called but there is a program/broadcast/transmission with military orchestras. Maybe I've heard it somewhere. Don't know how the German version is called.

I am the same - the only advantage I have is that at orchestra I get to write out programme notes - so tend to remember names (sometimes!) And if we play a piece often enough the name eventually sinks in!!
