Perfect Weather ... Perfect Pony!!

debris4spikeWhen I arrived this morning all 5 of the horses were gathered around the communal water trough ... so there was either a lot of gossip to discuss, or they were all having a late breakfast!
DJ came in really quietly and settled on his normal part of the yard ready to be groomed. He didn't even jump when a large lorry rattled past on the road. He had a good groom - top to tail ... literally! I re-trimmed the backs of his back legs and a bit around his chin. His Strangles scar was causing him some grief, but after I had really scratched and then brushed his throat well he settled even further.
I had to laugh when I was doing his tail - For those who don't know, when you are brushing a tail, even of a horse you know you stand slightly to one side and rest part of your body on their hip ... so far, so good. The trouble is, today, that DJ was so relaxed that he decided to rest that leg - and lean back against me!! In fact as I finished I actually spoke to him, otherwise I think he would have fallen over, I had so much of his weight!!
Toni brought in Smudge and the 4 of us headed off across her drive ... with me almost going head over heals!! I had leant up DJ's neck to pull some grass out of his mouth, that he had managed to grab as I got on him ... he was walking ... not concentrating ... and stumbled!!! Fortunately he didn't seem to notice that I was now sprawled up his neck!! Gave Toni (and Smudge) a good laugh - anyway!!
We met up with Ros and Cherry and went down the road, and back up the bridle path - cantering most of the way.
While we did the road work, DJ was great. In fact the other 2 got told off a couple of times, but DJ just walked on at a great pace and was even sensible around the traffic. On the canter he didn't try to overtake, but kept at a sensible distance behind Smudge.
So - as I said on my title - me was a good boy today ... I have called him a twit in the past, but have to congratulate him when he deserves it.
Once back, because he had been sensible he was still nice and cool so he could have a feed ... and another carrot, and back to his field ... His halo shining as he went!
