Having A Shoe Fettish!

Honestly, does DJ not reaslise how lucky he is - he has had more new shoes last year than I did ... and that's even if you count a set of 4 as a single pair!

This latest set - hardly worn ... well he has kept them on his feet, but like slippers he hasn't been up and down the roads with them!

So, today I collected him from his nice sunny field so that he could have yet another pair of made-to-measure shoes ... yet again something I can't afford for myself!

As we walked in he slowed by Secret's grave.  It was almost as if he was just pausing to pay his respects.   Horses tend to spook easily and although the grave site was new he just quietly walked slowly past it.

Then to the yard.  As it was a nice day I thought I would "attempt" to groom him outside - he has been rolling again - yes, as predicted, his head collar is muddy.  As it turned out I had only been working for about 20 minutes when Ian (the farrier) arriver - early!

So - one hour later "sir" is the proud owner of a new set of shoes ... and then ... guess what ...

Yes - he had to have carrots to congratulate him for being a good boy!

Still, he had been good - and now he has to realise that he has to get back to work - I am determined we are going to wear these set of shoes out!

And for those who have forgotten - yes, under the dirt he is a dappled grey with a silver tail and mane!! ... Honest!!

Isn't it unfair how sometimes animals/pets get better treatment than humans? What would I give for a pair of tailored shoes...

Yes - amde to measure shoes ... on a reular basis - and he doesn't even have to go to the shops - they come to him!

Yes - I am sure we spend more on them and their things than we do on ourselves!

I know many will think me mad but I believe animals are far more aware than given credit. They have had studies that show elephants grieve and seem to be fully aware of the status of others inheir group, why not horses? My guess is you were completely in the right of what was happening with DJ. Awwwww a soft hearted horse! Probably has been feeling bad for his mum's poor hand lately too.

Thanks - yes, I am sure that he knew that it was Secret's grave. Having spent the last 10 years around horses I know that their relationships to those around them is quite outstanding.

Don't know about the hand - he was probably just gald of his 9 weeks holiday!!

It's frightening how much better than us they get treated...I have to search for ages for a pair of shoes and they just stand there and have the shoeshop come to them...lol

Yes - Made to measure ... and then given a treat as well - Do they realise how spoilt they are??

He is lovely - even with his winter coat and a layer of mud!

Awww look at that face I so want to give him a kiss *but dont tell him*. Dessie has a head coller just like that and the same color! He always likes to give you a good challenge with keeping him clean. And nice new shoes, what a lucky boy.

Yes, last week when I put his head collar on Toni asked how long it would look clean!! At least being a darker colour some of the dirt doesn't show!

Yes, the more time I spend around these lovely animals the more I realise how aware they are of what is happening - and how they do miss their friends.
