Californian Disaster.

This is just a note to say that I hope all of my f-list are safe from the fires that are raging through California. Both for those living there

spikes_lady and re_animating and for those who have family in that state .. and, of course, for James!

I hear that it was arson started the fires - how could anyone.? Fire is so indiscriminate, so destructive - both to human (and animal) life and to property. I am a hoarder and just loosing photos and mementos would be hard enough, without anyone I know being hurt.

I just pray that you will all be safe, and that the disaster will soon be brought under control.

The original fire(s) started when the winds blew down power lines, I think. Only the one in Orange County (near me) is being attributed to arson so far. I heard a fire investigator say yesterday that it's not uncommon for arsonists to want to join in and spread the damage. I can't understand that at all.

Wow! It's making the news on your side of the pond!
I'm still waiting to hear from friends and family in the area. It's pretty bad.
It hasn't hit this part of CA yet, but the weather is shifting, and we're supposed to get the heat and winds very soon now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that no one is stupid enough to light up their fireplace or toss a cigarette out their car window, but that might be too much to hope for.

Yes, its on the news - and saw it there before starting to see notes on my f-list ... I just hope and pray that the wind will die down, change back on itself ... anything. As you say, arson can be just someone not thinking - I just hope that you are all kept safe and well ...

That's hard, those areas are just so very dry.

Yes - rain is really the answer.

Earlier in the year Greece suffered similar - and it is due to the dry summer ... although when I write that I then think of all the flooding England had due to the wet Spring and Summer ... our global weather is certainly upside-down or something.

I have several co-workers located in that area who have been evacuated. We're waiting to hear how they make out.

Nope. I live on the East Coast in Pennsylvania. 3000 miles away. My company has facilities in California, Georgia, Bermuda, Massachusetts, and Ireland. We just closed our facility in San Diego, but there are still people working there on the transition to South San Francisco. :)
