A Head-Tilt That Spike Would Have Been Proud Of ...

Yes, that's how DJ stood as I walked across the field towards him.  I guessed he was up to something - but wasn't till I got there I realised what it was!!

No head-collar!

Not all horses (in England) are left in head-collars for safety reasons - but DJ lives in fields that are overlooked both by Toni's house as well as neighbours - so all of her horses wear head-collars ... well not this morning.  

So he stood watching me walk towards him, with just a rope in my hands ...

Sadly, fo him, he had forgotten that I had been well trained by Toni - and had worked in stables ... so I can make a temporary head-collar ... and thus led him out of his field.  I could almost hear Smudge sniggering behind us!!

So - he went into his box - and I went back to the field to find it!  The furthest corner was where I started - yes, good choice!  As that is where it was - with one of the clips snapped in two!  So I got back and got some string to repair it - so that he had something to wear again.

I win!!!  DJ lost!!!!

Toni brought Smudge in and we just went round the easiest block, as Toni has a really bad cold.  Still it was great to be out - in the sunshine, even though that also meant the flies were also out and about.

Once home - a feed, a carrot (does he deserve it!) and then back out to his field - wearing his repaired head-collar - What story he will tell the others is anyones guess!

Yes I had to fight through them when I got back from Toni's. Will admit the ant killer stuff was well used!!

Oh - seeing your icon (don't shoot me !!) ... but it was a LOL that I was missing (as well as the hugs)

Sometimes they are left just loose enough that in an emergency they can pull out of them - but in this case he had actually snapped a metal buckle-clip in half ... How ... Well I'll give you his address - you can try and get an answer out of him, He wasn't telling me!!

Sounds like he might have tried to scratch his face and snapped it with his hoof,especially if it was the buckle he broke, it's not something that would snap if he'd caught it on a tree..... my horse did that once.

Thanks - I couldn't work out what he had done as neither he nor Smudge had any marks on them - No trees only high Cornish Hedge (bank) on 2 sides and intact fencing on the other 2 ... so that sounds possible

lol. Poor DJ thought he'd gotten away with it, I'm sure. At least he got the undeserved carrot to serve as a balm for his wounded ego.

Maybe one of the other horses pulled the head collar off him? Chance does that to Sugar all the time ... her head collar, her fly mask, whatever it is, he'll try to steal it. He'll even try to grab her bridle when hubby and I take them out together.

Maybe - altho' ukchrisp wondered whether he had broken the buckle scratching his face on his foot - that sounds possible as well. I shall ask him again later - but don't suppose he will let me know!!

Well he certainly is bleached - and until you wrote that I hadn't made that final connection between my 2 males ... Spike/DJ ... what a pairing! If only I was good at fiction ... that could be quite a story!!
