Our Fourth Anniversary!

Yes - it was 4 years ago today that I got back from Church to receive a phone call from Toni that she had to have my Jaykub put to sleep.  He was only 10, but had broken his front leg.

My parents drove me and my car half way home and met Toni and her husband who took me back to their place for the night.  When we got there she took me out to see her horses - to begin the slow healing process ... but also to tell me that she was giving me DJ on permanent loan.

So I reminded him this morning that he had been with me for 4 years - and the look he gave me was really one of horror!

We went out with Toni and Badger - not going far.  But 27th July is a tough day for us both - so it was just good to ride.  

The weather was great - for a few minutes!!  So we could just potter up the road and back, having a good chat!

How did Jaykub break his leg? Sorry that today has mixed feelings.

No one knows! He was "field boss" and when the stables went to get the horses in that Sun morning 3 didn't come to the gate, while the others galloped through. Jaykub , with his 2 special friends on either side, were standing in the middle of the field. So all the vet could presume was, that as there were no skid marks and he was still on his feet, that he had a pathological spiral fracture of his upper front leg. He was already "switched off" - so I genuinely believe that he wouldn't have known much about it - and his 2 friends stayed with him... until the vet arrived, then they took off (Smudge was his best friend!).

So it is hard to say goodbye - but I only have good memories - Toni was with him for that last hour - nad then had to phone me, so in some ways her day was worse!

We didn't have long together - but I have some amazing memories of a "lovable nutter" ... Another 14.2 pony who loved life, and me!
