I just want to say a special THANK YOU to all of you who helped - I now have my beautiful banner that samantha_78 made for me, on my journal - so I am really happy.  The help pages that spikereader and xevildeadgirlx pointed me to worked ... so, yes, I still have a free account!
Thanks also to cordykitten for her help in getting the basic LJ sorted out - and last, but not least, to underthis_shade for mu great icons.
