debris4spike: (London - Dr Who (+ James lyrics))
Yes, I had a great trip - but totally exhausted last night - so no time on the computer!

Although I only travelled up on Tuesday and back on Thursday I saw a few museuems, walked a few miles ... and took loads of photos.  Didn't get to see James this time (pointing to icon) .... he so needs to return next year for a day.

I didn't stay at the previous hostel as I found one that was cheeper, and breakfast was also part of the price.  However when I got there the facilities were better, and it was a lot quieter - so anyone wanting a hostel I would rec it. It is off Russel Square (near Great Ormond Street Hospital and Kings Cross) ....

This is it )

I went to a lot of museums and they will all get their individual scribbles and a few pictures uploaded ... but one place I went to is -here )

.... Just an ordinary road in London.  It is actually the start of Blackfriars Underpass for anyone who knows the city.  I have only been here twice in my life.  Once on Thursday, and the other time 30 years ago - where I was on a bike and a car came through red lights and ran me over.  I have scars on my ankle and a back problem, but "Praise God" that is all.

So it was good to go back on a sunny day (like "that" day) and see it.

Well, as it's Saturday, Jiffy is waiting for his walk, so sorry folks more scribble must wait till later!

The V&A )

I had been wanting to get to the V&A for ages, so that was the first place I went (after dropping off my suitcase!) .... they had a couple of extra displays that I didn't pay to see ... one of which I could see from one of the balconies anyway!

Still it was good fun, and a great start to my holiday.  I stuck to the main section ... pottery, glass and textiles.  It was the costumes that I really enjoyed looking at.

And, to show that I was there here is a (blurred) picture ... yes, the light was fading and using non-flash makes my camera not very happy sometimes!

Smile )

So mostly it was the costumes I loved ... I really should be better at making notes as to dates and names.  Anyway, behind the cut are a few pictures of my favourite outfits ....

Only a couple of random pictures here from the end of my day 1 in London.

As I came out of the V&A I had to cross the road for the tube station and outside the Science Museum is a winter skating rink -

No, I didn't have a go )

I went to the British Library, and enjoyed looking at Beethoven's work.  I am a huge fan of his music, so was glad to see that.    There were also a great selection of old Bibles and prayerbooks, which were special to see.  Photography wasn't allowed, but this is near the cafe, showing some of the vast storage areas.  Most of the Library is for research purposes, but the bit that is open was fascintimg.

The Library )

For 4 years, while at college, I travelled each day on the tube, and it was good to see some of them decorated to reflect the month of November, and Remeberance Day -

Look at the Poppies )

And so ends day 1 of my mini-break ... off to bed.
