LJ Posts

 I have just been told by my good friend that although I export my LJ posts to DW, they are not showing up on the reading page.

So for LJ friends who no longer check in there, sorry - I haven't ignored you, but DW doesn't show the posts where it should ... so if you want to catch up read my journal.

20 Assorted Icons

As I said I did do 2 sets of 20's this month.  This second set is for Round 7 of [livejournal.com profile] monthlyinspo ... our theme was teaching.  I always find it hard when there is an open theme like this, but a good challenge, nevertheless.  As I did last month I have chosen to do 5 sets of 4's.

Your challenge, should you accept, is to recognise the film stills without cheating and looking at the answers (at the end)

My 3 teasers are -

Kerr Avon (Blakes 7) Icons

As I said I actually signed up for 2 sets of icons this month. This set is for round 97 of [livejournal.com profile] character20n20 with my character as Kerr Avon from Blakes 7 ... all the images are from season 1.

Photos

I joined [livejournal.com profile] photo_scavenger when it started and in her latest post, [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat pointed out that a lot of people have drifted away.  I will admit I am one of them, despite my best intentions.  I wonder how many on my f-list are members ... and if so if they ever have a go.  All it is, is one photo-challenge per week.

Anyway, as I'm off sick with flu, I have gone through this years holiday photos to post the last 6 colour challenges.  All were in America, July 2017.

Colourful, brown, orange, grey white, blue

This way to the colours )

So, pop over and have a go!

Typical Deborah

Anyway, yesterday was the [livejournal.com profile] monthlydiaryday and I posted there the first time in ages. However, this is all I wrote ...

I slept! Well, drank water, ate some fruit & salad, and slept!

Yes I have managed to get flu, despite having had the flu jab last October!

Hope the rest of you had a better day!

So even though I have loads of comments to reply to, loads of icons to make (I actually signed up for 2 sets of 20), loads of letters to write; but I have a fuzzy brain and an aching body.

Sorry I keep disappearing ... as ever, will try better.

I Am Truly Upset

In England we are so lucky to have the NHS.

I work for the NHS - and love it.

However people are always complaining about it - especially the waiting lists.

Well, a colleague of mine's husband found out last month he needed a heart proceedure.  He was told it could be a year before he got his appointment, but as they said they could take a cancellation they were lucky and Freddie had his proceedure yesterday ... Yay (and all went well).

HOWEVER, when they got there just before 8 am they were the only ones there ... there were 5 slots.  About 20 mins late one of the others turned up, but the others never did.

So all these people who complain should see this, and the fact that 75% of the clinics I work in have at least one non-attending.  Routinely they are offered another appointment, and thus more money, more delay in waiting lists .

I don't often get political, but was just so annoyed about these other 3 missing people.

Domestic Meme #3

Washroom: showers or baths? bubbles? bath bombs?

I used to love a soak in a bubble bath ... complete with a book to read. However the bath at my house is a bit short to stretch out as it's a small room. However, last year I joined a gym that has a jacuzzi ... so, I have a nice soak there every time I go.

I do like a quick shower ... not ages like some

2. Kitchen: favourite comfort food?

Well, tonight being a Saturday I shall be eating Chicken & Chips (fries) ... still in the paper!  That is a great favourite.

I also love tomatoes, grapes (especially red ones), Cadbury milk chocolate, doughnuts, and roast chicken crisps (chips)

... Oh boy, now I am hungry!

Something Was Wrong Last Monday

... England had a Bank Holiday, and the weather was lovely!  Truly felt so wrong, even though it was lovely.

Christine came over for the day, and after an early lunch I drove us to Sand, in Sidbury.  As well as the famous stately homes, we still have houses that are privately owned, and open a few days a year to help with the upkeep.  Sand is one.  We were given a guided tour, as well as a history lesson, by the owner.  Obviously there are no indoor photos, but for a house that dates back to 1200 it was fascinating.

The small original building was ignored in 1300 when a new building was built, and then in 1500's the original was added to, thus making a Tudor house.  The owners rented it out for years which meant no real changes were made, although lighting, indoor plumbing etc was added at the beginning of the 20th century.

Anyway, here is the house and gardens ... in the sun )

Domestic Question Meme.

Still haven't answered replies, yet here I am posting again!!  And, in fact, I have 2 other day trips to share.  Last Thursday I met up with Brenda to celebrate her birthday (today), and then yesterday went on a coach trip with Christine.  So, you have been warned, more photos to come!

But instead of doing those (I still have to sort photos anyway, I am doing this domestic question meme, that I snagged from [livejournal.com profile] teragramm

The questions )

Bedroom: what’s your sleep schedule?
Providing I am not tired, I go up to bed at about 10.30, and get up somewhere between 7.30 & 8.  However I still have to beware, as sometimes my tiredness sneaks up on me, and then it's bed by 8.30

I do like to read before I turn off the light ... so should be about 1/2 hour ... but that can vary.

I don't "do" duvets, pjs & nighties, or cheepo pillows.

Stonehenge

Well my last 2 posts have both been from Salisbury, which was half of the coach trip I went on with Christine.  The other half was Stonehenge, which I should imagine everyone has heard of.

I had been before ... age 3, so didn't remember much!!!!!

There is a new visitor centre, which is well laid out, but don't bother stopping at the coffee shop ... the cake I had was dry, and then I got stung on the foot by a bee!

A step back in time )

Salisbury Cathedral

I promised you these photos a few days back, and here are the images of the Cathedral ... a superb cathedral, with some long history.

The first Salisbury Cathedral was completed at Old Sarum in 1092 under Osmund, the first Bishop of Salisbury. The Domesday Book is thought to have been presented to William the Conqueror at Old Sarum a few years earlier, in 1086. Disputes with the military and scarce water supplies led to an alternative location being sought and in 1220 a new site for the Cathedral was consecrated at New Sarum.

The foundation stones were laid on 28th April 1220. The first part to be completed was the three eastern chapels named for St Stephen, Trinity, and St Peter. The building of the new cathedral was greatly helped by the energy of the bishop and the patronage of powerful people, including King Henry III, who donated trees from Ireland and estates in Wiltshire for the roof timbers, doors, etc., and Alice Brewer, who gave marble for 12 years from her Purbeck quarry, which provided capitals, shafts, columns and bases inside, and some shafts outside. The Bishop, Dean, and 52 Canons also each made substantial donations from income derived from their estates, or prebends.

The main body of the cathedral was finished by the consecration on 29 September 1258. But the whole project also included the West Front, the Cloisters, the Chapter House, and the (now demolished) detached Bell Tower, which stood between the High Street Gate and the Cathedral. All of these were probably completed by 1266.

Even more spectacularly, the Cathedral was enlarged upwards between 1300 and 1320, by the incomparable tower and spire. This development was not unique to Salisbury – the cathedrals in London (old St Paul’s) and Lincoln both had taller spires, if only of timber and lead – but this one has proved the longest-lived, and since the late 16th century has been the tallest in England, standing at 404 ft/123m. It seems likely the spire was severely damaged within a few years of completion, and so needed repairs for which the still-existing internal scaffolding was built.

And, here is what it looks like in the 21st century )

High 5 Deborah

When I was 11, until I was 18 I did sports 3 ties a week, plus learnt Judo .... and never once did I ever manage ONE press-up.

Today at gym I went to a core-class and did 40 second "plank", then a 10 second gap, before doing the same, with lifting one leg and holding for 5 seconds, then the other leg, then an arm, then the other .... and again.

Yay - high-5 Deborah ... Truly happy with yself.

Just A Few Points

  • GGgrrrr - haven't been posting regularily!

  • GGGGgggrrrrrrrr - haven't replied to your comments.

  • Jiffy is still scratching, but not as bad as he was, so the vet has suggested increasing his baths, and I am being more pro-active at finding different walks to go on.

  • Went to Salisbury & Stonehenge on Wednesday (photos to come)

  • Work comes & goes ... well, the patients do.  Everyone moans about the lack of money spent on the NHS, however whatever really annoys me is that so many people just don't turn up for their appointments.  That causes more expense.

  • And, as a final point - I have booked a weeks trip in June in Italy ... Rome, Florence, etc

And, finally Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] kudagirl ... miss you

Cemetery Thoughts

As ever I go up to the cemetery for a walk on a Sunday ... Jiffy loves chasing the squirrels if he spots them.  Anyway, I spotted a couple of things - one amusing, but the first very sad.

One of the new gravestones up read of a boy who had died at one hour old on Christmas Day ,,, so sad.  My Granddad died on Christmas Day, but this poor family it is such a sad day.

One thing that made me smile is that many of the Victorian stones have the phrase "Peace, Perfect Peace" .  It is a line from a hymn ... but I do wonder if any of them were there because the relatives thought that it was now more peaceful once that person had gone  ... or is that just my warped mind?

~~~
Well with those random thoughts I must get on with some letter writing - Have a good Sunday
A Nice Thursday
A couple of days ago, I took the day off work, and Christine came over.
We started the day with taking Jiffy for a local walk, and then we looked at some of my American photos on the computer.
After an early lunch the two of us headed out to the outskirts of Exeter. One great thing about this city is within a couple of miles you are literally in the middle of nowhere. We went to see Fursdon House. It is a house that has a basic Tudor inner, with a Georgian extension and facade. As it is still privately owned, I couldn't take photos inside, but thought you might like to see some images of the gardens.
Enjoying nature )
