This afternoon I was stuck in traffic for a short time not far from where I live (I was taking Jiffy for his annual jab).  Anyway, 2 things I saw amused me.  I see them all the time, but today I am obviously warped ....

1)    They are building a new retirement complex ... backing onto the crematorium!!!   (They obviously don't expect people to have a long retirement!)

2)   Just across from the hos[ital is a small parade of shops.  5 shops, 2 of them are funeral directors   (They obviously don't trust the doctors!!)

Well, as I said - madness abounds today!

~~~~~~
On a more normal note, let me wish Queen Elizabeth a lovely 91st birthday.
This is the latest advert for Weetabix ... Jiffy has 1/2 a one every evening mixed in with his meat!
So, look out Exeter, Jiffy is here!
As all of you probably know by now we had a terrorist related incident in London, and as ever random people walking through the city are injured or have lost their lives.  It seems small compared with other atrocities, but no doubt is meant to scare people away from the city.
No way - terrorists are not going to run my life ... or my country!
Anyway, enough of politics (etc) not something I usually even mention on LJ.
##########
I keep saying I am back and then disappear!  Last time I picked up a tummy bug (I think the kid who sat in front of me at Church the previous day was ill), and sadly my Chronic Fatigue set back in ... so I somehow lost a week.  I managed to work for 2 days, but that was all.
So, I need to focus, and get back on track.  There is no way I can skim back through your news, and I must yet again apologise that I have been a bad friend (I should get that sentence in the pc memory and that way just fill that line in each time! ).
So what I need to do is do a catch-up post incase any of you remember who I am, and want to know where I am and what I am doing!It's all about me - )
I do hope that you are all well ... any news, please let me know.
*group hugs*
Wow
How did I manage to dissappear for that long - so far behind?  I suppose it asn't helped that I have been working a couple of "normal" weeks, which is actually only 3 1/2 days, but I have been very tired the rest of the time.  I also ended up very sore after having Carpel Tunnel injection.  The GP just caught a nerve as he put the needle in, and although he moved it it was still really sore for a week.
Jiffy has been keeping OK, which is good.
I have booked my holiday.  I will be out of the country for almost all of July (and a couple of days of June).  This coming Thursday I shall be meeting up with a lady and her dog who may be Jiffy's carer for the holiday.
The decorating is finished for the present.  I am slowly trying to pack things away in their permenant home.  However I have decided to have a conservatory built!  So some things will have to move again after Easter.  I will post some pictures soon, I promise.
Still I am posting a couple of pictures here.  Last Wednesday I had an email to say that Mum & Dad's stones had been placed.  If you are on Facebook you will have seen the overall view, but here are some more.
RIP Mum & Dad )
One thing that I have managed to do over the last couple of weeks is make 20 icons for the first round of [livejournal.com profile] monthlyinspo ... the theme is "Blazing Blue". There were no other prompts, which I tend to find slightly harder.
Anyway, here are the three teasers :-
I owe replies, I haven't caught up with my f-list .... I am just so, so bad!
But I am determined to start catching up, starting today.  In about 1/2 hours time Jiffy and I are heading out to pick up my friend Christine, have a walk and lunch at a doggy friendly place.  I am taking my camera but as the decorator is still in I can't get at my main computer so won't share today .... but will asap.
Anyway, what's up with me?  Not much!
I am having my kitchen painted at present, and yesterday the same painter finished painting my bedroom.  The carpet arrives next week.  So hopefully as the days and weeks now move on I shall be able to start packing things away in their permenant homes.  I have decided to have a sunlounge off my kitchen, so there is that to confirm and book ... and then the only thing I will eventually need is a new lounge carpet and the room painted.
No further on my holiday plans, as I am waiting for Annemarie to confirm the dates with her.  So annoying, as I dare-say flights, etc will be going up in price.   So am still at the vague point of Oregon - LA - San Fransisco - Visiting a friend in Missouri.  Will update, when I can.
Jiffy is doing well - slightly confused by stuff being moved around all the time, so it will be nice to get him settled again.
Having been a bit on-off with the gym, I have gone twice last week, already once this week, and booked for a class on Friday.
I have had a week or two of drifting, but I am determined to get myself back on track.  I will catch up with comments, re-post a gift I owe (!), and try to keep up to date with all your journals.  Bear with me - I will get there!
Well I had better get on and get Jiffy ready.
I know I have missed a few birthdays over this last week sorry - but on the day that would have been Mum's 89th birthday, I do hope you had a good day, and the year ahead is special.
Be back later *hugs*
debris4spike: (Upminster)
As I have already posted I went to Auntie Joyce's 90th birthday this last weekend.  The older she gets, the more she gets like her mum (I suppose that will happen to me - you have been warned!).  She is quite a numb person, with no real emotions.  So sad.  When I arrived, and left, I gave her a hug ... but I might as well have hugged the lamp-post near the drive ... no reaction at all.
She didn't want any cards, and asked me to pop her balloons before I left (I didn't!).  Still it was a good event the coffee morning put on, with other friends invited, and a lovely spread of food.A couple of photos )
Jiffy was a good boy - he slept much of it, despite over 50 people talking around him ... some people congratulated him by giving him a sausage roll and half a cheese scone!And here's the proof )
As ever Jiffy made himself at homeAnd kept guard )
I am trying to get the camera out a bit more this year, so here are a couple of photos I took while in Clacton ...  )
As you may have seen, I have been MIA, which is why I need to do catch-up. I have been to Auntie Joyce's 90th birthday last Friday. She is Dad's sister, and as you can see that like Dad 2 years ago, she doesn't really look 90.
 photo D20170127Kirby_Church 7 of 29-3_zpskvvmmyyn.jpg
There are a few more photos that I took and will post in the next couple of days.
Anyway, here is my 365 meme catch-up!
26 - List your pets.
In the past Mum & Dad had 3 spaniels.
Scrappy, a golden one who died when she was 13 and I was 6.
Perry (my first love), a blue roan, and died a month before his 5th birthday.
Misty, a white & orange, who was 15 1/2 when he died.
Now there is Jiffy a Westie who is 10 1/2 now ...and as mad as ever.
My other "first love" was Jaykub, a Welsh Cob cross, who died when he was 10, and then I had my namesake, DJ, a dappled grey Connemara on loan until he was 10 (he now lives in Windsor)
27 - Today I felt really secure knowing ______
That I was able to be with Auntie Joyce on her birthday.
28 - Whose life did you make a difference in today?
I spent the day with Jiffy and Auntie Joyce, but don't know if I made any difference there.  However I did buy Claire's birthday pressie, so next week that will make a diffenence to her!
29 - What is your super power?
To be able to spot a spider and run away!
365 Meme Day 21
debris4spike: (Spike - face + body + my name)
What mood were you in today?
Pretty good.
  • I heard back from Annemarie, and it looks as if plans can be made for my USA trip.
  • I went to the gym, and although wasn't there long had a good time.
  • Jiffy had a good walk this morning ... this week has been tough as two vet visits (he likes them, but sad they had to happen).. An ear infection, then a cut paw. But today he was doing well
365 Meme Day 16
debris4spike: (Jiffy - one ear up)
Whats the last thing you apologized for?
Actually about an hour ago I was putting the antibiotic ointment into Jiffy's left ear, and it was sore for him (we only went to the vet this eve), and I was apologising that I was making his "poorly ear" feel even worse.
debris4spike: (Gym quote)
A few of my friends have done posts reminding us at that despite problems and upsets, there are still so many positive things, so I am going to try a positive post a week.
Yesterday I went to the gym, and my trainer has increased the number of repeats on all my programme!  There was one that I reduced the weight for on the last rep as I was struggling, but other than that I managed (just).  However what really cheered me up was that I always finish with a swim and jacuzzi.  As I was swimming I actually counted the lengths and realised that back in October the first time I went I only swam ... and only managed 4 lengths, a gap, and another 4.  Yesterday, after an increased workout, I swam 10 lengths, and actually could probably have done a bit more ... so, great, my stamina is much improved already.
Back to work this afternoon after 6 weeks off.  Still coughing, and catching my breath, but I am doing an "ignore and see" ... so for me, that's a positive way forward!  Having had a lifetime of chest problems at least my doctor accepts that I will struggle from time to time ... so we are seeing how things go.
And finally, had a great walk with Jiffy this morning.  He has been a bit sluggish, which worried me, I put his older jumper on him, and whether it was that, or just he is feeling better, he enjoyed himself ... and it was great walking across frosty land.
Well I must get on, as I need to get an early lunch and change ready for work.
debris4spike: (Flashing lights with my name)
Well I said I would do it, so here are the first couple of days
What is your number one goal this year?
I really want to try and feel more positive about myself - but after 55 years that may be a bit of a struggle. Still points for giving it a go!
What are you most grateful for?
For my friends here, for Jiffy, and most importantly my faith. I am also thankful that, although I lost M&D in the last 15 months, I am thankful that I was able to know them so well.
Day 28 → your plans for New Years Eve
I always stay up to see in the New Year, last year was the first year by myself, as the previous year I was with Mum & Dad.
This year I shall treat myself to a takeaway at the local chippy, and watch some TV. I shall definately be watching "I'll be home for Christmas", the 1988 version. It's a family tradition - White Christmas on Boxing Day, and I'll be home for New Year's Eve.
I will have sherry, and sing "Auld Lang Sine", then watch the fireworks on TV and then speak to all the family on the phone. One downside of fireworks is that poor Jiffy hates them :(
No New Year resolutions - I did them as a kid and always broke them by 2nd Jan, so now I don't bother!
Day 25 → a photo of you and your family
Obviously none this year - but here are a couple from the last few years. This one was taken when we were on holiday in Kos in 2007 ... we went over for a day trip to Turkey
debris4spike: (Christmas - reason for the season)
No, not "the" first Christmas, although this is what we need to remember, but this is the first without Mum & Dad (or any other family).  And, yes I did cook myself a proper dinner ... and Jiffy thoroughly enjoyed himself opening his pressies that Santa brought him!
Happy Christmas .... I hope that all my friends are having a lovely day, but also that you are able to set aside at least a few minutes to remember the first Christmas morning - Jesus, the Son of God, born as a baby in Bethlehem.
Thank you Jesus for coming to this world.
Our Church wasn't having a service this morning, so I went to a local Baptist one and was pleased that we had one of my favourite carols. This is one of the 2 I chose when I was baptised back in 1975, but still love it now. Lovely tune, and meaningful words.
I do love the traditional carols, but this one was one of the other ones we had at Church this morning .... Let's celebrate the birth of a Baby
Day 23 → travel you did this year
Well, I did a lot of travelling to and from Exeter-Torquay, going to Church, taking Jiffy to the vets & hairdressers, as well as sorting out M&D's hose.
But my main 2 trips were -
a) Visit to Clacton to see Auntie Joyce (Dad's sister), as well as going to visit her in Colchester when she was in hospital. I plan to go to Clacton at the end of January as it's her 90th birthday.
b) My real holiday was a trip to London for remembrance weekend .... sightseeing, the cenotaph, and meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] deborahw37 . As you can see by the photos I have already posted.
debris4spike: (LOL - James)
Day 15 → something that made you laugh this year
Despite my year in general I am a fairly happy person normally.
However Jiffy does keep me amused. Sometimes he looks at me as if I have flipped, and that makes me grin at him!!
However here is photographic evidence of laughter.  Taken on Father's Day I was trying to get Dad to look at the camera ... and it got very silly ... Great memory
Day 12 → talk about this year in medical news
For any who know me, they will realise that I have had some tough health problems.
Back in January I had a viral chest infection, that was so bad that my GP was worried that I had a blood clot on my lungs, or had a heart attack.  Fortunately all was OK, but it took 7 weeks before I was well enough to go back to work.
Then I broke a crown off a tooth, and when treatment started I ended up with an infection, so lost the tooth ... and got an infection in the socket!
Now, I am off work again with a virus.  However my doctor has said that the virus is just the name to put on the off-work certificate, but mostly it is emotional exhaustion that has knocked me down.  So 2 weeks off already, and now this coming week, but hoping to cope with going back to work next week.
###
Other medical news was Dad having another stroke in the Spring, and then (as you know) he died on the 2nd September)
His sister was in hospital for 2 weeks with BP problems, and a urine infection.
Jiffy had to have his anal glands removed, as well as a large wart removed from his face a month after Dad's death.  He has also had 3 or 4 skin infections this year (he has one at present)
Roll on 2017!!!
A Proper Post!
Wednesday, December 7th, 2016 12:22 pm
debris4spike: (James - buzz cut & name.)
I am so busy spamming you with London photos, as well as managing to keep up to date with the December Meme that I haven't actually done a proper post in ages ... so here goes.
  • First, I am so sorry, but I forgot to post Birthday wishes to [livejournal.com profile] gillo and [livejournal.com profile] shaddyr yesterday.  I truly hope you both had lovely days, being spoilt by those you love and that the coming year will be a truly special one.
  • I have just got back from the doctors.  I have been signed off for the rest of this week with the option to just phone in on Monday if I still feel rough.  It is being called a viral chest infection, but basically exhaustion on top of that.  I have had viral chest infections most years, normally lasting about 5 - 7 days, so it's obvious when my body has to slow down that's what gets to me.
  • Jiffy has another bad skin infection, so he was happy to go and see Marni for a cuddle (and anti-biotics!)
  • My new kitchen worksurface arrives tomorrow.   So when I finish this I have to clear all the surfaces.
  • I really need to get organised for Christmas.  I think I have done most of the shopping, but need to sort it out and post things off.  I haven't even thought about cards, but already received some, so I must focus.  Maybe I will try to get started tomorrow while my kitchen is being dismantled.
  • Yesterday I had a suprise phone call.  The person who had been Mum's friend while they were at school during the war.  They lost some of their closeness when she married, and then Mum moved away, but have still kept in touch and visited .  She just phoned to find out how I was coping.  So that was really lovely.
Well, anyone who is still awake wins a special award.
Now, I will post some more London photos later! But to finish, a Christmas song I heard on the radio this morning -
debris4spike: (Sorry ... James)
No more photos for another couple of days, no time to check my f-list .... Life is still taking over.
I have got rid of the stuff, mostly, around the staires, but still have some furniture to move, so almost ready for the decorators to return for the next time.
On Sunday I did pop to visit Auntie Joyce.  Spoke to Brenda and she had persuaded Nick not to do the trip, which I agreed with.  He is not coping at all.  His work have been great, but even that hasn't been the answer, although it has helped him.  At least he is admitting he can't cope with life, so that's positive.  Brenda is busy at work, and coping with Nick, plus being taxi driver to the 3 younger boys!  So, I left here at just before 9am, having taken Jiffy for an early walk, and stopped for lunch and eventually got there at about 2.15pm.  The nurse said she is actually doing OK, and they hope to discharge her home sometime this week.  I stayed about 2 hours, and headed back home.  Stopping for tea, and getting stuck in traffic, I eventually made it hope about 10.30pm.  Jiffy had been a good boy, and "kept his legs crossed".
Poor boy, especially as yesterday the weather was horric, so another day without a real walk again.  I was shattered all day, but an early night and a later start today have helped me to feel more human again.
In a minute I am off to the solicitors to "swear" the probate on dad's will.  Then back to work again this afternoon.
Work tomorrow, but then an extra day off to start sorting things out (ha, ha).  So hopefully I shall get some photos sorted and up, and get comments answered.
Sorry - will try to be a better friend soon, I promise (fingers crossed)
