365 Meme Day 23

My biggest hope is ______

1
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
2
When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.
3
His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.
4
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
In Him, my righteousness, alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

Well I said I would do it, so here are the first couple of days

What is your number one goal this year?

I really want to try and feel more positive about myself - but after 55 years that may be a bit of a struggle. Still points for giving it a go!

What are you most grateful for?

For my friends here, for Jiffy, and most importantly my faith. I am also thankful that, although I lost M&D in the last 15 months, I am thankful that I was able to know them so well.

Dancing With God

Thursday, October 30th, 2014 06:29 pm
debris4spike: (Closer to God)
When I meditated on the word Guidance, I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word.

I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing.  When two people try to lead, nothing feels right.  The movement doesn't flow with the music, and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.  When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music.  One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or by pressing Lightly in one direction or another.  It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully.  The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other.

My eyes drew back to the word Guidance .

When I saw "G": I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i".  God, "u" and "i" dance."  God, you, and I dance.

As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust that I would get guidance about my life.  Once again, I became willing to let God lead.

My prayer for you today is that God's blessings and mercies are upon you on this day and everyday.  May you abide in God, as God abides in you.
Dance together with God, trusting God to lead and to guide you through each season of your life.

This prayer is powerful and there is nothing attached .... There is no cost but a lot of rewards; so let's continue to pray for one another.

And I Hope You Dance!

This morning when I was reading my Bible, from The Message (paraphrased) version,  I came across a verse that just made me smile - reminding me how good my God is.  With the year that I am having it is good to have this promise -

1 Corinthians 10 : 13

No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.

That made me happy!

Hugs You Tight

Some people are given a hug every day ... and some when I know they need it.

As you all know my faith is utmost in my life ... today it's Good Friday, the day that Jesus, God's son, died on a cross for all the sins of this world ever.

I praise God in that ... but more especially in that He rose again. I praise God that He did this for the world ... He did it for me.

Thank you God.

This hymn is one of my favourites ....

Praise God that He sent His Son to the world ... to die for us. Take a moment this Good Friday to pray and give thanks.
debris4spike: (Hardest thing - live in the world)
1. There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.

2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.

3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you.

4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.

5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.

6. You mean the world to someone.

7. You are special and unique.

8. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.

9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.

10. When you think the world has turned its back on you take another look.

11. Always remember the compliments you received … Forget about the rude remarks.

And always remember... when life hands you Lemons,ask for Tequila and Salt and call me over!

Good friends are like stars......... You don't always see them, But you know they are always there..

"Whenever God Closes One Door He Always Opens Another, Even Though Sometimes It's Hell in the Hallway"

I would rather have one rose and a kind word from a friend while I'm here than a whole truck load when I'm gone..

Happiness keeps You Sweet,
Trials keep You Strong,
Sorrows keep You Human,
Failures keeps You Humble,
Success keeps You Glowing,
But Only
God keeps You Going

'Worry looks around, sorry looks back, Faith looks up.'

I am great at just taking life as it comes.

As most of you know I was bullied and that left me very isolated, add to that my strong faith, most days life does just travel forward, and I go along with it.

This morning as I was reading my Bible, I saw a verse in the Psalms that jumped out at me, and got me thinking.  It was in a modern version, so the phrase meant something.  It was one of King David's Psalms and one of those he wrote when he was feeling alone.

I can so relate to that - and as I said it is something that I have been suffering from again recently.

However, and this is where I began to think ... David, in this case, was betrayed by his best friend.

I met Toni, my best friend in 1997, and since our first meeting (she was a patient of mine), our friendship just blossomed ... into something neither of us have had before.  She and I are alike in many ways, an so different in others, yet we have supported each other through some tough times ... and through some happy days.

Some years ago someone we both worked with tried to separate us, and for a few hours I felt like David did here ... but we spoke, only to find that Toni was feeling the same ... from then on we watched her try this again (and again).

I am so glad that even though we now live over an hour's drive apart, other than actually up the road from each other, our friendship is still there.

She has given me so much - friendship, unquestioning support, loaning me a horse (who she had already named after me ... DJ), laughter, and being with Jaykub when he had to be put to sleep.  She taught me to ride, she pushed me both in my riding and in my general confidence.  I have pushed her confidence in herself ... and was there with her when she had to have her horse put down while we were out riding ... and have had her daughters stay with me a few times.

Thank you Toni, for sticking by me.  Toni is a special person in my life ... and I can Thank God that she hurt her back and had to come to me for treatment!!!

I am still struggling with the virus ... in fact could only stay for one service this morning as I had woken up coughing early in the morning, and just couldn't stop. So decided to go home after service#1 so I could both snooze, and so others could actually hear what was going on!!

Still it was good as they had 2 of my favourite hymns ("And, Can It Be") as well as "Everlasting Love". That hymn was one I needed as I had been feeling emotionally low over the last few days ... my regular "lonely" feelings ... but the hymn reminded me that whatever else, I have a great eternal relationship with God.

The hymn words ... for those who don't know it )

I hope that you all had a great weekend ... and are looking forward to Monday tomorrow!

Hallelujah

Jesus Christ is Alive Today

Comments by ZingerBug.com

Hope that you are able to celebrate the resurection of Jesus Christ today.
debris4spike: (Flashing lights with my name)
For those of you who hve known me for over 18 months you will know that there were only a couple of things I regretted about my move to Exeter and that was leaving the orchestra that I had been a member of for 25 years.  Anyway last Wednesday I had an urgent message from the conductor asking me to play on Saturday - and to say I am out of practice is an understatement.  As I play a clarinet it is hard to get the correct muscles in the mouth toned in 3 days!!!  Still I went, arriving at rehearsal, not even knowing what music we were doing!

It was great to be back, and I loved it, even though it reminded me again how much I miss the group!  The rehearsal went well, and then I had a couple of hours free, so I went to see the stunning view of the Atlantic, via the only working sea-lock gates in England!  Then met up with Toni ... which was my other reason for not wanting to leave the area - so it was great to see her (and her husband) again.

The Atlantic )

Then back for the concert ... and good to see one or two people in the audience I knew, as well.  The concert went well - Beethoven Overture, Mozart Piano Concerto (played by a 10 year old!!), Mahler Folk Tune, New Suite of Music (written by a member of Truro Orchestra) and an Haydn Symphony.  Bizarly, at the end, the comittee asked me to do the Thank You speach, as it was something I used to do for the last 10 years!!

So, it was fun to be back, although a long day as I had started it by having the car MOT'd and serviced.S

unday was Mothering Sunday - and as ever Mum didn't want a fuss!  In the afternoon Tim and Claire came round for tea and we had a super evening - including one hour of hymn singing .... Mum got to chose hymns she knew (as she is partially sighted), Dad played the piano and we sang ... while Jiffy hid!  Mum chose all but 4, as we all had a choice - this was mine -

So, it was a special eveing - great to share time together and be able to celebrate both Mum and our faith, at the same time.

Hope that you all had such a lovely weekend.

For those of you who have never read the whole Bible - here it is summarised in 8 minutes -

Happy Sunday everyone.
debris4spike: (Christmas - reason for the season)
I had already posted My favourite secular song ... Merry Christmas Everyone - Slade before I read the prompt ... so you that give me a chance to share my favourite Carol. back in 1975 I was baptised, as Dad did the service I was able to pick the hymns. It was December 28th ... so this is one I chose ... and is still my favourite today.

debris4spike: (Christ is Risen)
Just had to share this with you - my cousin (who is 99) sent me the link.

Beautiful hymn - lovely photographs.

Whether you have a deap faith, as I do, or if you just enjoy a fun film, then Sister Act comes in that catagory.

Sister Act is about a Reno lounge singer named Deloris Van Carter who witnesses her mobster boyfriend killing an employer. She is then hidden in a convent under a witness protection program. She soon makes friends with the nuns especially Sister Mary Robert, Sister Mary Lazuras and Sister Mary Patrick. After the Mother Superior catches Deloris going out to a bar in the night time followed by Mary Robert and Mary Patrick she orders her to join the church choir. Only to find her coaching the choir and turning them into swingin' singin' sisters. The choir proves to be a big success with the surrounding neighborhood, but will Deloris' boyfriend track her down?

She re-invents the choir and has them singing secular songs, but rather than aiming at a boyfriend, their focus is on God. I love this song anyway, but it is also a shows this change in theme brilliantly -

The finale of the film - Delores no longer needs to hide the fact she is not a nun, but she still has one more concert to do -

Full report to follow at some point!.

Just wanted to share a favourite verse of mine -

Romans 8 v38 - 39  (NKJV)
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We had, as one of our hymns today, the hymn I chose to celebrate my 40th birthday (Can't believe that was 11 years ago)

What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he'll take and shield thee;
thou wilt find a solace there.

I Love This Hymn

debris4spike: (Amen!)
Just had to listen to this hymn ... so thought I would share it. I love it very much - the words mean so much, and say so much as to why I am who I am. We finished our second morning service with it - but I was on coffee duty, so didn't get to sing it!

1
All the way my Savior leads me;
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my Guide?
Heav'nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate'er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well,
For I know, whate'er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.

2
All the way my Savior leads me,
Cheers each winding path I tread,
Gives me grace for every trial,
Feeds me with the living bread.
Though my weary steps may falter,
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! a spring of joy I see,
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! a spring of joy I see.

3
All the way my Savior leads me;
Oh, the fullness of His grace!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father's blest embrace.
When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day,
This my song through endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way,
This my song through endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way.
